14 DAY TRIAL // OpenWrt, the open-source, Linux kernel-based operating system for routers and embedded devices, has been updated today, March 22, 2016, to version 15.05.1, the first point release in the "Chaos Calmer" series.
OpenWrt 15.05.1 is here to update many of the internal components, starting with the Linux kernel, which is now at version 3.18.23 (it fixes a keyring reference leak), and continuing with the OpenSSL 1.0.2f, Samba 3.6, as well as netifd, uhttpd, rpcd, uci, procd, ubox, and hostapd.
Additionally, some strange restart issues have been repaired in igmpproxy. It is also worth mentioning the fact that the included Linux 3.18.23 kernel, which is a long-term supported release, contains multiple other fixes to features like multicast-to-unicast and ramoverlay.
Multiple drivers have been updated as well in OpenWrt 15.05.1, and among the most important ones, we can mention ledtrig-netdev, bcm47xxpart (support for botting bcm53xx on NAND with bad blocks), brcmfmac (better TX power support, beamforming support, and stations dumping), 8139c, solos-pci (increased RX headroom), xrx200-net, and mac80211.
Several new devices are now supported by OpenWrt
Besides all the under-the-hood goodies mentioned above, OpenWrt 15.05.1 "Chaos Calmer" adds support for new devices, such as Linksys WRT1900ACS (mvebu), LinkIt Smart7688 (ramips), TP-LINK TL-WR841N/ND v10 (ar71xx), D-LINK DIR-615 rev. Ix (ar71xx), ZBT WG2626 (ramips), and Linksys WRT1900ACS (mvebu).
Furthermore, the Gainstrong MiniBox v1.0 (ar71xx), TP-LINK TL-WR941ND v6 international version (ar71xx), TL-WR741ND v5 (ar71xx), and WR740N v5.0 (ar71xx) devices are also supported. Also, the Netgear R8000 devices have received USB power and CPU speed improvements, and the Raspberry Pi ones - sysupgrade support.
