Apple’s new 4-inch phone model could be called iPhone 5se, and rumor has it that it might launch in March, alongside new Apple Watch bands and the iPad Air 3.

Now, according to a new report coming from 9to5mac, the iPhone 5se will come with faster chips than initially expected, but also with some other goodies that could make it quite a hot sell.

First and foremost, there is word that Apple is currently evaluating several prototypes of the iPhone 5se, some of which come with the A8 and M8 chips, but also a few that are powered by the A9 and M9 processors available on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

The aforementioned report claims the last two have higher chances to make it to production for one simple reason: Apple doesn’t want its new iPhone to feel outdated, as it has a bigger plan for it when the iPhone 7 hits the shelves.

To be part of Apple’s revamped iPhone lineup

Basically, the iPhone 5se could replace the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus when the next generation goes live in September, so Apple’s lineup would basically consist of the 5se, the 6s, the 6s Plus, the 7, and the 7 Plus.

Additionally, it appears that Apple is currently considering just two storage options for the iPhone 5se, namely 16GB and 64GB. Obviously, there won’t be microSD card support, which is something to be expected for an Apple device.

And last but not least, the 4-inch iPhone will come with Hey Siri support, so users can call the personal assistant by name anytime they want. This is only possible thanks to the new processors, and this is one of the reasons Apple wants the device to be powered by the A9 and the M9.

As usual, these are all just in the rumor stage for now, so don’t take anything for granted until March, when the company is expected to present the new 4-inch iPhone.
