14 DAY TRIAL // Softpedia received earlier an email from Arne Exton where he informs us that a new build of his AndEX Live CD is available for free for those who already purchased it to update.
AndEX Live CD is a fork of the well-known Android-x86 operating system, based on Google's Android 5.5.1 Lollipop and the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel. The main difference between the original Android-x86 and the AndEX Live CD is that the latter comes pre-installed with several Google apps and services.
The GAPPS package gives users access to main Google applications, such as the Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Maps, and YouTube. Of course, you'll also get many other applications that are not included by default in other spins of the Android-x86 distribution.
"My compiled Android–x86 system (Lollipop 5.1.1) can run live (from CD or a USB stick) or be installed on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers)," said Arne Exton. "This build of AndEX (160215) replaces build 151010. No need to upgrade if you already have a working version of build 151010 installed."
What's new in AndEX Live CD Build 160215
The previous version of AndEX Live CD, build 151010, was released on October 10, 2015, and it was powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.0.8 kernel, so the main feature of the new AndEX Live CD build 160215 is Linux kernel 4.4.0. So if you want to run the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop mobile OS on your PC with Linux kernel 4.4 LTS, get AndEX Live CD.
Again, if you already own a copy of the AndEX Live CD, you'll get today's update for free. Otherwise, you'll have to pay the sum of $9 (€8) for a fresh copy, but we recommend that you first get familiar with the Android–x86 system before buying this fork. As a reminder, there's a version of AndEX Live built around Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
