14 DAY TRIAL // The Ubuntu developers announced a few minutes ago, on November 30, that the Ubuntu Font Family package was updated to version 0.84 in the daily build ISO images of the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system.
According to the changelog published on the Launchpad website and attached at the end of the article for reference, Ubuntu Font Family 0.84 brings the highly anticipated Arabic and Hebrew glyphs designed by the Dalton Maag crew back in 2011, along with the respective Fontconfig fallback mechanisms.
Moreover, the new Ubuntu Font Family package includes a thin weight of the Ubuntu font, and fixes italic style issues with the Greek and Latin characters. In addition, it aligns Nikud diacriticals to letters for Hebrew fonts, avoids clipping on Microsoft Windows, repairs the PI letter for the Greek font, and addresses some licensing problems with the fonts.
"In case you’ve upgraded to the Xenial (16.04 LTS) development release, you’ll have noticed that a new version of the Ubuntu Font Family has been uploaded to the archive (thank you, Laney and Canonical Design Team!)," said one of the Ubuntu developers in a brief announcement.
Ubuntu Mono fonts were updated
On the other hand, the Ubuntu Mono font has been updated in the Ubuntu Font Family 0.84 update, and the developers managed to find a fix for a visual regression of the supplied Mono weights. However, it appears that several bugs remain in this new version of the Ubuntu Font Family, which contains version 0.83 of the Ubuntu Mono fonts.
