Now that Mozilla has officially released the Mozilla Firefox 41.0 web browser for all GNU/Linux distributions, but also for the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, the time has come to update it on your favorite OS.

The Ubuntu developers were, once again, quick on delivering the new Firefox version in all the supported Ubuntu Linux operating systems and their derivatives. In other words, you can now update Ubuntu's default web browser to Mozilla Firefox 41.0. The fact of the matter is that Canonical urges users to update immediately.

Users of the Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet), Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) OSes are advised to fire up the Software Updater utility and apply all available updates. Mozilla Firefox 41.0 has landed in Ubuntu's repositories today, September 22, 2015, replacing Mozilla Firefox 40.0.3.

Highlights of Mozilla Firefox 41.0

Prominent features of Mozilla Firefox 41.0 include the ability to set a profile picture for your Firefox account, IM (Instant Messaging) support in the Firefox Hello component, support for using SVG images as favicons, memory improvements for the AdBlock Plus add-on, better box-shadow rendering performance, as well as image decoding improvements.

Additionally, Mozilla Firefox 41.0 comes with support for running opacity and transform animations on the compositor thread, the implementation of perfect forward secrecy in WebRTC, a bunch of HTML5 improvements, several updates for web developers, and fixes for many of those annoying bugs reported by users since Mozilla Firefox 40.0.3.

For those of you running a GNU/Linux distribution other than Ubuntu or its derivatives, we recommend watching the official software repositories for Mozilla Firefox 41.0 in the coming days. In the meantime, you can download the Mozilla Firefox 41.0 binaries for 64-bit and 32-bit architectures right now from either Softpedia or the Firefox's official website, whichever suits you best.
