Motorola might be leaving some handsets out of the update

Motorola has just shared with us a list of devices that are bound to be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update soon, including models like the Moto X second and third edition, Moto G second and third edition, Droid Turbo, Moto MAXX, Moto Turbo and, of course, the Nexus 6.

While this is very good news, it has been noticed that some devices from Motorola’s portfolio are inexplicably missing from the list. For example, the Moto E second edition is nowhere to be found, which is pretty puzzling since the phone is merely eight months old.

What’s more, it also seems like carrier versions of the Moto X second generation won’t be getting the update either. This also applies the AT&T and Verizon models, which were rolled out on the market not so long ago. Owners of these particular devices won’t be happy about the news, especially since the unlocked version of the same phones is getting the update.

Not all hope is lost

But before we go jump at Motorola’s throat asking for explanations, we should keep in mind one aspect. To be fair, Motorola’s VP and Software Product Manager Bjorn Kilburn has said that all upgrades are subject to carrier support and approval. Furthermore, there’s also the fact that the list of upgradable Motorola smartphones may be modified at any moment.

The company has confirmed things can change, so any device mentioned earlier can be removed, but any other Motorola smartphone that doesn’t appear could be added later on. So there’s hope for the Moto E (2015) and AT&T and Verizon versions of the Moto X (2014). We’re pretty sure that the former will get the update at some point, given that it’s such a new device.

Speaking about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, the company said owners of Motorola devices can expect to see some changes. The device maker has also announced that it will remove Moto Assist as part of the new update, which means we can expect Motorola handsets to offer a more stock Android experience with Marshmallow.

Motorola has been one of the first device manufacturers to offer the Android Lollipop update to its host of handsets, and it seems like it is keeping the trend up with Marshmallow.
