Production could begin in January, new report claims

Apple is believed to be working on a more affordable version of the iPhone 6s, and according to people close to the matter, it could be released as iPhone 6c to become a direct successor to the 5c.

Now a new report coming from China (via GadgetzArena) claims the iPhone 6c could enter production as soon as next month, before a public unveiling in March. Sales could begin in April if the leaked product roadmap is accurate.

What’s interesting is that this new source claims the iPhone 6c will be similar in size to the iPhone 5c, so it’ll measure 124.4 x 59.2 x 9 mm (4.90 x 2.33 x 0.35 inches). The two will also be similar in shape and weight, with the 5c tipping the scales at 132 grams.

These similarities could be living proof that Apple’s indeed going to launch a 4-inch iPhone, as rumored earlier this year, as demand for smaller devices still seems to be quite high in the United States and several other top overseas markets.

Metal case and Apple Pay support

In order to make the iPhone 6c as affordable as possible, premium features such as 3D Touch won’t be available on the new model. And yet, the device will most likely come with Touch ID and Apple Pay support, as Apple wants to boost usage of the service in the US.

The iPhone 6c could come with a metal case and be available in several colors, just like its predecessor. It might have a battery of 1642 mAh that Apple thinks is enough to get anyone through the day.

Pricing information is not yet available, but it’s believed the device could cost approximately $400 (€380) for the entry-level version. Several storage options will also be offered, starting with 16 GB and most likely ending with 64 GB.
