New photo shows what seems to be Lightning headphones

People close to the matter have previously suggested that the iPhone 7 would ditch the traditional 3.5mm audio connector and come instead with just one Lightning connector that would serve multiple purposes, including charging and listening to music.

As a result, headphones using a Lightning connector could become must-have for those who want to listen to their favorite songs on an iPhone 7 and a recent leak claims to confirm that such a change is indeed very likely to happen.

Coming from China, the photo you see at the top of the article shows that iPhone headsets with Lightning connectors are indeed prepared for the release of the new model, suggesting that the audio jack is very likely to go away.

Fake or real?

But what’s very important to note is that nobody should take this photo for granted because it could very well be fake – although we all expect the 3.5mm audio port to be removed.

Famous leaker @OnLeaks couldn’t confirm the legitimacy of the photo, but said on Twitter that it’s extremely easy to create such a fake (and the photo you see at the end of the article is actually a photoshopped picture that he created to prove how easy it is to set up something like this).

Without a doubt, the removal of the audio jack will lead to more controversy when the iPhone 7 hits the market. Wired headphones would make it impossible to charge the phone while listening to music, for example, while a wireless version would only add another thing to our list of devices and accessories that need to be recharged at a regular time.

More information on how Apple wants to make the transition from the 3.5mm port to the Lightning connector should emerge in the coming months, as the iPhone 7 is projected to see daylight in September.
