A set of shell scripts to automatically build live OSes

Today, April 3, 2016, Minimal Linux Live developer Ivan Davidov was happy announce the immediate availability for download of an updated version of his project that lets people create minimal, live BusyBox- and Linux kernel-based operating systems.

According to the release notes, the April 3rd release of the Minimal Linux Live project is based on the long-term supported Linux 4.4.6 kernel, the well-known BusyBox 1.24.2 software, and the Glibc (GNU C Library) 2.23 core library, which makes the generated ISO images with approximately 4MB larger in size, and requiring at least 64MB or RAM.

Furthermore, Minimal Linux Live comes with a revised build architecture with the actual C compiler and the related binary tools as the only core dependency for the host operating system. The script is now capable of automatically generating the main C library and kernel headers, which will be used as part of the overall build process.

Among some other interesting changes, we can notice that the experimental folder has been dropped, a patch arrived for the DNS resolving issue reported by users from previous releases of Minimal Linux Live, the internal script comments were improved to be more detailed, and the ISO generation process suffered important changes.

"The ISO image generation process is now in a separate script file, completely detached from the kernel build infrastructure. This allows the Mnimal Linux Live users to modify the ISO image file/directory structure before the actual ISO generation," the developer has explained.

Build your own Live Linux OSes with Minimal Linux Live

Minimal Linux Live helps you build your own Live Linux distribution, and if you are interested in doing so, you can read the getting started guide from the project's website, where you'll also find a demo on how to achieve that. Today's Minimal Linux Live 03-Apr-2016 release is also available for download from there.

Minimal Linux Live is distributed as pre-built Live CD ISO images for both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (x86) hardware architectures, as well as a source archive consisting of all the shell scripts you need to build your OS, which can be tweaked and modified as you see fit.
