The new tablet will come with Intel’s Skylake and Windows 10

The Surface Pro 3 is a winner, Microsoft’s COO Kevin Turner has recently said at WPC 2015, so it’s no surprise that the Redmond-based tech giant is looking to continue the success of this device with a successor supposed to run Windows 10 and feature the latest in the hardware industry.

The Surface Pro 4 is already in the works, several sources have pointed out, but Microsoft keeps everything secret for the time being, which could be a sign that we’re not very close to its debut.

But now Digitimes claims that the Pro 4 could launch as soon as October, if their sources “from the upstream supply chain” are correct, obviously featuring Windows 10 and new hardware for the best experience you can get in Microsoft’s new operating system.

Early specs

This isn’t the first time when October is said to be Microsoft’s release date for the Surface Pro 4, but there’s still no confirmation from the company or anyone close to its plans that this is indeed the month when the new tablet could see daylight.

The Surface Pro 4 will debut with Windows 10, the source says, and will come with “the same ultra-thin form factor, bezel size, and large-size display.” This means that the Pro 4 could boast a display of 12 inches, just like its predecessor, but Microsoft will also use Intel’s new Skylake processor for better performance.

Redmond is reportedly very optimistic that the Surface Pro 4 will be a hit, so the company expects monthly Surface shipments to reach 500,000 or even 600,000 units, up from 200,000 recorded when the first-generation Surface Pro launched in February 2013.

Of course, we should take all of these with a grain of salt until Microsoft confirms them, but there’s no doubt that the Surface Pro 4 will arrive at some point in the future thanks to the success recorded by its predecessor.
