AT&T will become the first carrier to bring Microsoft’s Surface 3 with LTE support in the United States, as the device will go on sale in the country on July 24.

Today the company has announced that the device will be available with a $0 initial price at $30 per month for 2 years, which means that the final price tag of the Surface 3 with LTE will reach $600. A second option is also available if you purchase a Lumia smartphone on AT&T Next, with the tablet available for $399.99.

Surprisingly, AT&T hasn’t specifically explained whether you can buy the device outright or not, but we’ve asked for clarification, and an answer should be provided soon. The commercial version of the Surface 3 will also be available for business customers in the coming weeks, AT&T says.

Technical specs

The Surface 3 is the newest addition to the Surface lineup and it comes with a 10.8-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, 2 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage or 4 GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage, a Quad Core Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor (2MB Cache, 1.6GHz with Intel Burst technology up to 2.4GHz), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and all the other standard tech you find on today’s tablets.

The Surface 3 also features a USB 3.0 port and a micro USB connector for charging, which makes it extremely convenient to recharge the tablet when you are running out of battery.

All the other Surface models come with a proprietary charging port, but starting with the Surface 3, all versions should adopt the same microUSB connector for easy charging, just like the majority of other tablets and smartphones currently on the market.

At this point, it’s not yet clear if other carriers plan to release the Surface 3 with LTE support, but Microsoft is believed to be in talks for more agreements, so expect more news on this to emerge soon.
