Microsoft has lost several high-profile executives lately, some of them included in the company's restructuring process after the takeover of Nokia's Devices and Services unit, and it looks like another important figure is leaving the software giant.

S. Somasegar, corporate vice president of the Developer Division at Microsoft, will depart in order to continue his career outside of Microsoft after no less than 26 years spent at the company, according to a report by ZDNet.

Known by many as Soma, he joined the company in 1989 and worked on no more, no less than eight different Windows versions during this tenure at Microsoft. He also worked for the Cloud and Enterprise business' Global Development Centers in China, India, and Israel, and was most recently the leader of the company's developer tools and services.

Microsoft has already confirmed his departure, but no other details were provided, so nobody can tell for sure whether he's doing this for personal reasons or if he found a better job elsewhere. But what we do know is that he wants to make the next step in this career somewhere else, possibly at this own company.

An absolutely great journey”

While Microsoft hasn't offered any statement regarding Soma's departure, the former VP of Developer unit posted on Twitter a farewell message for his ex-colleagues.

“Today, we shared the news that I have decided to leave @Microsoft and pursue the next phase of my career. It has been an absolutely great journey - working with such an amazing team and building great developer technologies. Thanks to @scottgu @satyanadella @BillGates and so many other wonderful people I have worked with over the years. I couldn't be more proud of what we've accomplished together over the last many years for the @Microsoft developer ecosystem. Looking forward to all the great things that Microsoft will do for developers in the years ahead.”

We reached out to Microsoft for more information on this new departure and will update the article should we receive an answer.
