The Windows 10 PC must cost at least $599

It’s not a secret that Microsoft is building hardware devices supposed to serve as alternatives to Apple’s MacBooks or iPads because even Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Devices unit at the company, described the Surface Pro 3 as the right replacement for laptops built by the Cupertino-based firm.

So a new campaign that attempts to convince MacBook owners to switch to Windows 10 is not at all surprising, but it clearly shows that the software giant is very serious about bringing as many people as possible on its new operating system.

As WinBeta reported, Microsoft is offering up to $300 (265 Euro) for your old MacBook if you purchase a new Windows 10 PC that costs $599 (525 Euro) or more. The offer is available in Microsoft stores in the United States between October 14 and October 20, so you'd better hurry up if you plan to switch to the new OS version.

Only working laptops are accepted

Now, there are a few things you should know before rushing to a Microsoft store to take advantage of this offer.

First and foremost, the company is also accepting used laptops (running Windows, that is), but only a $200 (180 Euro) voucher is offered in this case, so it’s better to bring in your old MacBook because you get more money.

The company says that all-in-ones, laptops or 2-in-1s, Apple MacBooks and iMacs can all qualify for the promotion if they are in working condition and are up to six years old. Your device must have a minimum 11.3-inch display and needs to come with a working battery and power supply. Monitors, keyboards, or mice are not needed.

If your MacBook has serious defects and major signs of wear and tear (such as a broken screen), you won’t get any money, but any other normal signs of use make your device qualify for the offer.

All information on the campaign, as well as the terms of the promotion, are available on the official website here.
