14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft Garage is back with yet another application that's not aimed at Windows Phone users. The new Twist application has just been released on App Store and promises to “encourage creative group photo banter.”
The new Twist application is an alternative to instant messengers like WhatsApp, BBM, Skype and the likes, which allow users to engage in conversations using words.
Well, Microsoft's new iOS application promises to allow users to engage in photo conversations with another person, or with a group, instead.
Why is the application called Twist? The answer is because of “the unexpected juxtapositions that occur when you have a split screen as the foundation for these ongoing chats.”

Basically, Twist users will start a new photo conversation with an image that will fill half of the screen and wait for their friends to complete the other half.
“When we were designing Twist, we observed that many of the digital ways people communicate today don’t allow for rich, expressive exchanges. Many messaging apps are adding functionality to make their experiences feel richer, such as stickers, emoji and animated gifs.
“We wanted to look at ways we could make that experience even better. That’s how we landed on a photo canvas as a rich medium, as a way you can really share your current situation, funny moments, spark creativity, etc.” says Jennifer Shen, the principal program manager lead whose Silicon Valley-based team built Twist.
According to developers, Twist can also keep a history of your photo conversations, so if you can't follow one, you can go back to it and catch up.
For the time being, Twist is only available in Canada and the United States, but there's a high chance that developers will make it available to additional territories soon.
You can now download Twist for iOS for free via App Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running iOS 8.0 or later.
