“We’re streamlining the photo experience in Windows”

Microsoft has just announced that it’s killing several Lumia apps ahead of the launch of Windows 10 Mobile, pointing out that it wants to “streamline the photo experience in Windows,” as many of the discontinued features will be part of the Photos and Camera apps.

Lumia Storyteller, Lumia Beamer, Photobeamer, Lumia Refocus, Lumia Panorama and Video Uploader will all get the axe on October 30, 2015, so Microsoft will no longer release updates beyond these updates and online services will stop working for some of these apps.

Specifically, Microsoft will pull the plug on Lumia Storyteller, Lumia Beamer, Photobeamer, and Lumia Refocus on October 30, so not only that updates will no longer be provided, but online services will also be removed. In order to access your content, you need to do it from apps installed on your Windows Phone device.

“To keep the images and videos in your online stories, open the Storyteller app, select online stories, and view each published story on the web. Then from the website, download all the images and videos that you want to keep. Be sure to do this before October 30, 2015, when the website will no longer be available,” Microsoft explains.

Apps to be removed from the store

Additionally, Lumia Panorama and Video Uploader will continue to work on your devices, but no support and updates will be offered beyond the aforementioned date.

Needless to say, apps will be removed from the store, so you won’t be able to get them starting November 1.

In case you’re wondering why this decision, the answer is as simple as it could be: Windows 10 Mobile comes with new Photos and Cameras apps and Microsoft wants to bundle most of the features available in the discontinued apps directly in the new OS, thus offering a better integrated experience.

Most of these apps will continue to work on your Windows 10 Mobile device after the upgrade, but some features might not be available.
