Microsoft has just rolled out a huge batch of updates for the pre-installed Windows 10 apps, most likely trying to prepare them for the release of Threshold 2 (or November update, as some call it).

Threshold 2 is the first major update that Microsoft’s new operating system is going to get, so it’s critical to both the Redmond-based search giant and its users to get everything right and provide a smooth upgrade process to the new version.

Apps will also get improvements here and there, so it’s not surprising at all to see this huge batch of apps getting updated today. The Windows Store, the Office Suite (Excel and PowerPoint Mobile, OneNote), as well as Mail and Calendar, the Get Started app, Xbox, Groove Music, Sway, Windows Alarms & Clock, and Microsoft Solitaire Collection have all been updated today.

Threshold 2 could launch today

As far as the change log is concerned, Microsoft hasn’t provided us with such a thing, which means that all these updates most likely bring fixes and performance improvements.

Threshold 2 is expected to launch later today, according to people close to the matter, but Microsoft is yet to publicly announce the update. The company has confirmed that a big update is coming in the fall, but no specifics have been provided so far, so the launch could easily be delayed since no one knows its arrival date for sure.

Threshold 2 will bring a rich set of improvements, starting with new personalization options, redesigned context menus, a fourth column of live tiles for the Start menu, Edge browser enhancements, and many others.

The release will take place via Windows Update and will become the new default for Windows 10, which means that users who install the new OS now or purchase a computer should get directly to Threshold 2 from the very beginning.
