Meizu has revealed that the MX4 Ubuntu Edition launches in Europe on June 25 and that it will be available with invitations only.

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition was released all the way back in May, but only in China and only for developers. Now, the Chinese company is also going to ship the phone in Europe, although it's not going to be in large numbers. This was to be expected, and it's the same kind of strategy that was employed by BQ, the other company that has an Ubuntu phone on the market right now.

We've already talked about the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition in great detail on numerous occasions, and users already know pretty much all there to it, so it's not really a surprise. It's the exact version that ships with the Android, and it's been around since September 2014.

Canonical and Meizu want enthusiasts to buy the phone

Unlike BQ, which organized flash sales for the phones, Meizu is going to do something very different. The company is going to have an interactive origami wall and some users that will access it will get an invite to buy the phone. It might seem like a weird way of doing business, but it makes sense.

At this point, neither Meizu nor Canonical is interested in sales numbers, they just want to get the phones in the hand of the right people, which in this case are users that already know what they are getting, for the most part.

"The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is an impeccably designed handset which will be available in silver and gold colours. This sleek device has 16GB internal memory and features an astounding 20.7 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and dual LED flash, plus a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. It also features a large 5.36” Sharp premium retina screen with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3," said Meizu in an official announcement.

MX4 Ubuntu Edition will be available starting tomorrow, June 25, and it will cost €299 ($335).
