Ringo de Kroon, the maintainer of the Manjaro Linux MATE and Cinnamon editions, has had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of the first Preview release of the Manjaro Linux Cinnamon 15.12 distribution.

The announcement for Manjaro Linux Cinnamon 15.12 Pre1 comes a few days after Mr. Ringo de Kroon published details about the release of Manjaro Linux MATE 15.12 Pre1 operating system, which featured the recently released MATE 1.12 desktop environment.

Manjaro Linux Cinnamon 15.12's biggest new feature will be the implementation of the latest Cinnamon 2.8 desktop environment, which is now ready for testing in this first Preview build. However, the developer has a lot of work to do before unleashing the final release, so he would like to know what new features users want to see in the OS.

"Let me know what things must change. You want the traditional workspace in the panel or the current Expo for workspace on panel?" asks Ringo de Kroon in the announcement for Manjaro Linux Cinnamon 15.12 Pre1. "Maia icon-theme is a stay or a go?"

It includes GNOME 3.18 packages

As expected, all the core Cinnamon components have been updated to version 2.8.0 in this first Preview release of Manjaro Linux Cinnamon Edition 15.12 while Cinnamon 2.8.2 is now used in the distribution, along with some packages from the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment.

The latest version of the Cinnamon desktop environment is now 2.8.4, released earlier this week, which means that it couldn't appear in Manjaro Linux Cinnamon 15.12 Pre1 at this time, but you should rest assured that the final release of the operating system will arrive with the latest Cinnamon release.

If you want to take the distribution for a test drive, we recommend downloading the 64-bit and 32-bit ISO images right now from Sofpedia, just please try to keep in mind that it's a pre-release version, not suitable for deployment in production environments where stability is of the essence.
