14 DAY TRIAL // Manjaro 15.09 (Bellatrix) is getting a new update, and this is an important one. The developers have finally managed to get the Catalyst drivers working for Linux kernel 4.2.
The Manjaro devs have been busy working on making the proprietary ADM Catalyst drivers work with the latest Linux kernel 4.2. Since AMD doesn't really bother with this kind of stuff and usually launches drivers that work by default with an older version of the kernel, it falls to the developer to make the adjustments.
The funny thing is that Linux kernel 4.3 was just released, and Manjaro is the kind of distro that really wants to have all the latest packages.
The Manjaro team is a very busy one, and the makers of this great distro always aim to improve the operating system with these large updates.
There are many other packages that have been upgraded for this release so that users will find much more than just the AMD drivers. Even if Manjaro is based on Arch Linux, it doesn't follow the same kind of release model, so things are a little bit different.
What's new in the latest Manjaro update
"Great news for all AMD users. We managed to get Catalyst working for linux42+! With this, we updated most of our kernels, xorg-server, mate, added more deepin packages, updated lumina-desktop plus fixed cogl for good. Linux310 got updated to 3.10.92, linux313 to 3.13.11.29, linux314 to 3.14.56, linux316 to 3.16.7.19, linux318 to 3.18.23, linux319 to 3.19.8.9, linux41 to 4.1.12, linux42 to 4.2.5, lumina-desktop to 0.8.7 and Xorg-Server to 1.17.4," said the Manjaro devs.
They also explained why they chose to have an older version of the Nvidia drivers, 52.55. It seems that the newer version has a known display resolution bug that hasn't been fixed just yet.
