The Team Fortress 2 multiplayer online shooter from Valve has been updated, and lots of fixes and balancing changes have been implemented in the game.

Valve has put a lot of money and effort into making Steam for Linux a reality, and its developers are also working on the Debian-based SteamOS, so it's easy to imagine that the Team Fortress 2 game will receive the same kind of attention. This is also one of first major games in Valve's catalog that's been ported to Linux, so it's been around for some time.

The performance of the game on Linux is very close to the other platforms, and you never hear Linux players complain about it.

It's also worth mentioning that Team Fortress 2 is also one of the best free-to-play games out there. Players only pay for decorative items and everyone is equal on the battlefield. You can't buy better weapons or gear, and you can't advance faster than other users. You can have much better hats, but that's pretty much it. This system has proved to be extremely successful for Valve, and they are sticking to it.

What's new in Team Fortress 2

According to the changelog, a new game mode called "PASS Time" has been added to the TF2 Beta, a crash caused by a client sending malformed network data to the server has been fixed, a new hat dubbed "The Finder's Fee" has been added, and some visual bugs caused by picking up weapons with special attributes have been repaired.

Besides that, the Mann vs. Machine Medigun shield is now being re-created after switching away from the Medigun, and the Australium Grenade Launcher has been updated to fix the wood material being shiny.

Also, the Maps Workshop Beta has been updated as well, a common crash when loading some compressed maps has been fixed, the handling of workshop maps in a server's map cycle is now much better, and The FindMap and CanProvideLevel API for server-side mods have been updated as well, as requested by the community.

As usual, you don't have to do anything special to enjoy the improvements, just let Team Fortress 2 update in Steam and you'll get all of these goodies.
