The two products are only set apart by their outer design

When launching multiple mice, even when the peripherals are part of the same product collection, companies usually make sure they are clearly set apart. Zowie didn't exactly do that when it created the EC1-A and EC2-A.

While the exterior shells are distinct, the specifications are otherwise identical. Thus, the newcomers are two right-handed mice with just barely different shapes.

Still, we suppose that the difference is actually a bit more blatant than for other product lines, which sometimes look the same on the outside but could not be more different internally.

Zowie figured that since it has the means, it may as well cater to the needs of different hand shapes, even if all its intended customers (for this product anyway) use the same hand to play their games.

The specs of the Zowie EC series

The mice are plug-and-play ready, for one thing, which means that they will work as soon as you plug them in. No driver required.

To be fair, many contemporary mice are like this now. Still, most require an app anyway, to control things like DPI, LED lighting, etc.

Speaking of which, the EC mice both have adjustable DPI (dots per inch) sensitivity. You can switch between 400 DPI, 800 DPI, 1,600 DPI and 3,200 DPI on the fly.

In much the same manner, the USB report rate can be modified, though only in three steps this time: 125 Hz, 500 Hz and 1,000 Hz.

The scroll wheel has 24 steps, meaning that you will move through a web page or document as quickly or as slowly as you wish.

As for the buttons, there are five of them: the left and right click, the scroll itself, and the two thumb keys (back / forward in a web browser, etc.).

The Zowie EC1-A and EC2-A both feature USB cables with a length of 2 meters / 6.6 feet and have a lift-off distance of 1.5 to 1.8 mm.

Availability and pricing

The Zowie EC1-A and EC2-A mice, powered by the Avago 3310 sensor and lacking acceleration or prediction (you decide what they do, not software-based guesswork), should be put up for sale shortly. They are both colored black and a premium coating voted as favorite by gamers who used the previous EC eVo CL mouse generation.
