ZTE will probably unveil the flagship soon enough

Late last month, ZTE rolled out the Z9 Max and Z9 mini, leaving everyone to wonder where the standard ZTE Z9 was hiding.

Well, it appears the Chinese device maker needed more time to develop its flagship, and as it has become apparent by virtue of a new leak, it had a good reason to postpone the launch.

The latest press render of the ZTE Nubia Z9 that has become available to us shows that the device maker might have something quite interesting in store for us.

Building on the hype created around the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, ZTE hopes to capture the interest of phone buyers by pushing out what seems to be a very worthy clone of the phone we mentioned above.

The ZTE Nubia Z9 might be a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge clone

As you can see for yourselves, the purported ZTE Nubia Z9 sports curved screen edges, pretty much in the vein of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Although we’re probably not dealing with the same curved AMOLED panel technology.

In this context, it makes more sense to assume that the new Nubia will use a design trick to make the side bezels disappear. It’s the path that fellow Chinese phone maker Oppo has also taken.

In a patent, the phone maker explains that the completely bezeless design can be achieved thanks to a special curve at the end of the transparent overlay, which diffracts light from the panel in a way that it’s actually projected on it, expanding beyond the display unit.

As for specs, we’re taking an opportunity to remind you that the ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to arrive with a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor located under the hood. Although some rumors claim we’re going to see a 64-bit hexa-core Snapdragon 808 instead, like it’s the case with the LG G4 flagship.

Furthermore, the Z9 will feature either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and we’re hearing the phone might be taking advantage of a fingerprint scanner built into the home button.

Given the number of leaks centering on the ZTE Nubia Z9 lately, we dare think the phone will be released pretty soon. We’ll keep an eye out for it.
