Not many people find YouTube's autoplay option useful

If you have accessed any video on YouTube lately, then you might already be aware of the fact that once the clip you clicked on comes to an end, another one starts streaming right away, and so on.

Some time ago, at the end of last year, a YouTube representative talked to the guys at Techcrunch, stating that “With more videos coming to YouTube every minute we’re always experimenting with ways to help people more easily find, watch and share the videos that matter most to them.”

But their initiative was not very well received by YouTube users.

Negative feedback

Many people seem quite dissatisfied with this particular feature, claiming that YouTube is practically forcing them to watch any kind of slightly related videos.

Since YouTube is still experimenting with this feature, maybe the large amount of negative feedback will determine them to remove the enhancement, just like they did with video responses, for instance, or the way they adjusted the interface based on the feedback coming from their users.

Therefore, since YouTube seems to actually take into consideration what its users think, maybe there is a chance for the feature to disappear completely. Also, it’s good to know that the mobile app does not have the Autoplay feature incorporated.

Meanwhile, you should know that you have the option to turn it off. So, at the very top of the suggested videos, you can find the Autoplay button, which is blue when turned on by default. If you switch it off, you won’t have to watch any unwanted videos. There are, however, people who claim that they have to turn it off every time they go on YouTube, which is rather annoying.

Unexpectedly, there are people who actually find it useful, especially if they use YouTube to listen to music, but then again, you have the possibility to create your own playlist and hand-pick your favorite songs instead of having YouTube choose them for you with its slightly off suggestions.

Many people would rather have YouTube work on more useful features, such as the offline viewing one, which is currently available only for users in India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
