The app can no longer be downloaded by Windows 8 users

While Microsoft struggles to convince more developers to bring their apps on Windows 8, some decide to step away from Redmond’s modern platform completely and concentrate on other mobile solutions designed to work on Android and iOS.

Yahoo, for example, is one of the companies that launched a Metro port of their Mail client, which allowed users to send and receive emails right in the Modern UI of Windows 8.

There’s no doubt that such an app came in very handy to those who were avid Yahoo Mail users, but all of a sudden, the program disappeared from the store and can no longer be downloaded.

At this point, if you search the web for Yahoo Mail for Windows 8 you might come across a link getting you to the store but which no longer works, telling you that “the app is no longer available.”

The only Windows 8 app developed by Yahoo

Yahoo Mail for Windows 8 was the only application developed by Yahoo for Microsoft’s modern operating system, so now that the email client is no longer available, the company has no solution designed to run in the Modern UI.

As WinBeta reports, Yahoo never focused on Microsoft’s mobile platform, and given the fact that the company doesn’t even have at least one Windows Phone app, the decision to remove Yahoo Mail from the Windows Store most likely marks the complete withdrawal from the modern OS.

Users who are still running Yahoo Mail on Windows 8 are not affected by the removal, but needless to say, no other updates and improvements would be rolled out for the application.

Few alternatives in the store

Unfortunately for those running Windows 8 and using Yahoo’s services, there are only a few alternatives in the store right now and almost zero chances to find a good Yahoo Mail replacement.

The best choice is to configure the Windows 8 Mail app to work with your Yahoo account, while for Messenger, IM+ is there to help. Of course, they do not provide the same feature lineup as the original apps, but at least they give you the option to use the services on your Windows 8 device.

Yahoo is yet to provide a statement to explain the reason why it decided to remove the mail client from the Windows Store, but more information would most likely be provided in the coming days. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that the removal was only temporary.
