We know that Xiaomi is working towards rolling out its next-gen flagship smartphone, the Mi5, but a report coming out of Asia today indicates that the Chinese device maker might be looking to follow an approach similar to Apple’s.

According to Xiaomi Today, the company is expected to unveil the Mi5 flagship and the premium Mi5 Plus sometime in November. The manufacturer also used this tactic a few months ago, when it launched the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro.

The report goes on to reveal more info about the upcoming products. We’re told that both phones will feature a full-metal build with a bezeless display and a next-gen Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood.

Apparently, the new system-on-chip will come bundled with a solution for the overheating issues the Snapdragon 810 has been repeatedly accused of.

The Snapdragon 820 should start shipping out to manufacturers later this year, and if everything goes according to plan, Xiaomi’s next premium duo might indeed end up benefiting from the services of this silicone piece.

Xiaomi might have a Mi5 Plus model to show us in a few months

As for specifications, the Mi5 is expected to arrive with a 5.2-inch 2.5D glass display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. The “basic” version will carry 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the Pro version will bundle 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage just like the Mi Note Pro.

Moving on, the Mi5 is poised to don a 16MP camera on the back and a fingerprint scanner too. The phone should pack a sleek frame of 6.1mm / 0.24 inches and a 3,000 mAh will be tasked to maintain it alive.

The Xiaomi Mi5 Plus will pack a 6-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and a 20MP main camera.

Last but not least, the report reveals that Xiaomi plans to price the phones very competitively. The Mi5 should go on sale for the equivalent of $371 / €334.
