The Xfce desktop environment sees its first point release today, March 23. While there’s no official announcement on the project’s website at the moment of writing this article, we can tell you that this is a bugfix release addressing some of the issues from Xfce 4.12.

Xfce 4.12.1 enables drag and drop of popup menu for local actions, now centers the text on the desktop icons via a new xfconf setting, which also fixes some issues with RTL (Right-to-Left) languages, prevents accidental double clicks in single click mode, monitors the wallpaper for changes, and reorganizes icon emblems in clockwise order.

It also fixes a crash that occurred when moving two or more icons to the bottom right corner of the desktop, centers icons vertically in the grid, no longer overwrites the rc file while restoring icons and automatically updates it after completing a delete process. The 'tmp_text' variable has been removed from Xfce 4.12.1 as it was not used.

Several other issues have been repaired and various improvements implemented

Xfce 4.12.1 now re-initializes the background when the user reloads the desktop, displays sub-directories in the template menu, sets the initial value of the font size of the spin button, handles icons with preset emblems, addresses the icon placement when using the "Arrange Desktop Icons" action, and disables the rename menu entry for special icons.

Lastly, non-scaled icons are dimmed and a mini icon is now used. Several translations have been updated, including Czech, Norwegian Bokmål, Brazilian Portuguese, Greek, Chinese, Spanish, Polish, Kazakh, Japanese, Lithuanian, Russian, Turkish, Croatian, Italian, Malay, Portuguese, Korean, Slovak, Thai, and Ukrainian.

The Xfce 4.12.1 update should arrive on your GNU/Linux operating system as soon as your distribution vendor compiles the packages, makes binaries for both 64 and 32-bit architectures, and uploads them in the main software repositories, which should take a day or two.
