Facebook is supposed to bring friends and family together, and it usually does just so. The thing is that, every once in a while, it can cause serious rows. Apparently, it can even get people in trouble with the law.

For instance, it was earlier this week that a woman attacked her grandmother simply because the elderly lady refused to accept her friend request on Facebook. That's right, an actual person actually got beaten up for being a bit too picky about her online friends.

It might sound like something to laugh about, but we can assure you that neither the 27-year-old woman nor her 72-year-old grandmother is even smiling about this little incident right about now.

How the elderly woman got beaten up

The police officers handling this case say that the two women got into a fight on early Thursday morning. It all started when 27-year-old Rachel Anne Hayes confronted her grandmother and asked her why she had failed to accept her friend request on Facebook.

It's unclear what the 72-year-old offered as an explanation, but what is pretty darn obvious is that Rachel Anne Hayes did not quite understand her grandmother's reasons for refusing to be her Facebook friend. Hence her decision to attack the woman.

Word has it that, when learning that her grandmother had no intention whatsoever to accept her friend request, the 27-year-old pretty much went bananas and started slapping her in the face. She hit hard, and she did not hit just once or twice.

Thus, information shared with the public shows that Rachel Anne Hayes slapped her grandmother several times. The woman tried to put up a fight, but given her age, there really wasn't all that much she could do to defend herself, Huffington Post explains.

Eventually, police officers arrived at the two ladies' home in the city of Clearwater in Florida, US, and arrested the 27-year-old Facebook fanatic. Luckily, they took the woman into custody before she had a chance to seriously injure her grandmother.

Making new friends in prison

Following this little family feud, the young woman who beat up her grandmother just to get her to become her Facebook friend was brought to a local police station and put behind bars. She has not yet been released, and chances are that it will be a while before this happens.

By the looks of it, the woman has until now been arrested on three other occasions for DUI, violation of probation for DUI, and disorderly conducts. It is understood that, on the morning when she attacked her grandmother, 27-year-old Rachel Anne Hayes was inebriated.
