Chicken sandwiches are pretty darn mouthwatering, but if we're going to be honest here, we have to admit that most people would take a bag full of cash over one such culinary delight anywhere, anytime.

The thing is that Janelle Jones, a young woman now living in the city of Rochester in New York, US, is not like most people. Hence her decision to return a whole lot of cash that a Burger King employee handed her instead of her food order.

That awkward moment when you order food and get cash

Reports say that this incident occurred towards the end of last week, on Friday. On that day, Janelle Jones stopped at a local Burger King drive-through in the city of Rochester and asked for a sweet tea and a junior spicy chicken sandwich.

The woman paid for her order, grabbed the bag the Burger King employee serving her handed her and then hit the road. While driving home, she found that the bag contained no food or at least a spoonful of sweet tea, but was instead full of cash.

In an interview, Janelle Jones explained that she found an impressive $2,631 (€2,347) in her Burger King bag. Rather than keep the money that she was obviously handed by mistake, she went back to the restaurant together with her husband and returned it.

“One person said ‘they were going to get fired’ so it felt good knowing we helped them keep their jobs,” Janelle Jones said in a statement concerning this incident. “It felt a lot better than keeping it,” husband Matthew Jones went on to add.

The couple did consider keeping the money

True, Janelle and Mathew Jones did eventually return the Burger King bank deposit that the woman was given instead of her sandwich and her sweet tea, but they say that, at first, they thought about keeping it, simply because they could've really used the money.

Apparently, the reason the couple decided to return the cash was that they are both Jehovah's Witnesses and firmly believe that Jehovah sees all and would not have appreciated such a gesture on their behalf. “We are not perfect human beings,” the couple admitted.
