The performance of the tech has been improved

Video game publisher Square Enix is announcing that the Witch Chapter 0 tech demo, which has previously been used to show off the power of its new Luminous engine, is now optimized to run on the new DirectX 12 tech from Microsoft.

The company says that it has worked with the creator of the API and with a team at Nvidia in order to develop better than ever real-time computer graphics technology that will allow future titles to offer a better experience.

Witch Chapter 0 focuses on crying, one of the emotions that has been very hard to portray realistically using existing tech.

The footage is pretty impressive, but it's unlikely that actual gameplay will ever become as complex as the demo.

The tech demo was created by the same team that worked on the Agni's Philosophy - Final Fantasy Realtime Tech Demo, which was first introduced in June 2012.

Yosuke Matsuda, the president and representative director of Square Enix, states, "The results will be used to further advance the quality and technical expertise of our games. We will continue to pursue this research on cutting-edge technologies including high-end real-time graphics using the innovative DirectX 12."

Witch Chapter 0 was shown at the most recent BUILD Microsoft event using a setup that included the Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X-4-way SLI PC.

DirectX 12 will significantly improve gaming on both the PC and the Xbox One

At the moment, the new API is set to be launched later in the year alongside the new Windows 10 operating system.

Microsoft is saying that the included technology will be able to improve both the quality of graphics and the actual performance of titles on the PC and on the Xbox One home console.

DirectX 12 will be used by the team working on the new Final Fantasy titles at Square Enix.

Microsoft also says that, with the launch of Windows 10 and the addition of the new graphics tech, it will bring gaming on the PC and the Xbox One closer and will allow players to have a better overall experience on both platforms.
