Wine developers have announced that a new version of the application has been made available and is now available for download. It's full of interesting features and numerous fixes.

Wine developers are making some great progress with the software, and they have implemented quite a lot of cool stuff lately. They don't seem interested in providing a stable edition of Wine, but the development branch has been updated for so long that users have gotten used to it.

"When users think of an emulator, they tend to think of things like game console emulators or virtualization software. However, Wine is a compatibility layer - it runs Windows applications in much the same way Windows does. There is no inherent loss of speed due to 'emulation' when using Wine, nor is there a need to open Wine before running your application," reads the official website.

What's new in Wine

According to the changelog, the support for Shell Browser windows has been improved, more API Sets libraries have been added, a major Catalan translation update has been implemented, and support has been added for WoW64 mode on ARM64.

Wine 1.7.43 brings bug fixes for the following Windows games and tools: WinBoard, Legions Overdrive, Mini Racing Online, Starcraft Campaign Editor, Battlefield Bad Company 2, C&C - Red Alert 2, JScript, qq international 2.0, Mars: War Logs, Age of Mythology, Child of Light, Evernote 5.5.x, Chessmaster, Open General, Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, Strong Bad's Cool Game, Wings of Vi, and PES2015.

More details about this release can be found in the official changelog. You can download Wine 1.7.43 source packages right now from Softpedia. It's possible to compile the package yourself, but there are quite a few dependencies, and it will take a while. Also, please keep in mind that if the applications you need already work with the stable version of Wine, then you should postpone upgrading to the new one.
