It's a well-known fact that Windows Phone usually receives the biggest app updates a few days or even weeks after Android and iOS, but as the old saying goes, it's better late than never.

The same seems to go in WhatsApp's case, as voice calling features for users of the world's number one mobile messaging service are very likely to arrive on Windows Phone soon, after having previously made the official debut on Android.

Little is known about this right now and it's very hard to predict when this is actually scheduled to happen, but a screenshot revealing an email conversation between the WhatsApp development team and a registered translator working to make the app available in Italian shows that voice calling options could soon land on Windows Phone too.

As compared to other apps that are available in the Windows Phone store, WhatsApp is one of those that are actually getting updates on a regular basis, so there's no doubt that it shouldn't take too long to see voice calling options arrive on Microsoft's mobile platform as well.

Controversy around the world

WhatsApp VOIP calling is one of the most awaited features developed by the Facebook-owned company, but at the same time, it's also the one causing controversy across the world. Some carriers have decided to ban voice calling through WhatsApp completely because it would significantly reduce the number of phone calls that are actually made over the mobile network.

Some mobile operators, on the other hand, have considered increasing the prices of data plans to make sure that phone calls continue to be used despite the arrival of WhatsApp voice calling, but it remains to be seen who's going to win in the end.

WhatsApp is right now the world's number one mobile messaging service with more than 700 million users, and the voice calling feature is very likely to bring even more people on board. This new option is set to arrive on both iOS and Windows Phone sometime in the near future, so Android device owners are the only ones who can use it right now.
