Microsoft confirms Windows 10 will launch next summer

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 will launch this summer in a total of 190 countries across the world, but the company has refused to provide any specifics on a more accurate release date.

While it's really difficult and very early to offer an exact launch date for a product that's still under development, we're hearing that Microsoft is planning to push Windows 10 to RTM in June, while full availability is scheduled for August.

Obviously, there are no other specific dates available right now, as Microsoft is still working on the operating system, but people close to the matter have said that these two months are very likely to be the final stages of development for Windows 10.

Making the most of the back-to-school season

At first glance, a June target for Windows 10 RTM pretty much makes sense, especially because Microsoft is said to be looking into ways to benefit from the back-to-school season that usually starts in mid-July and ends in mid-September.

If Windows 10 indeed reaches RTM in June, manufacturers and Microsoft itself would have enough time to finalize new devices, including tablets and laptops, running the new operating system, before the back-to-school frenzy begins, which obviously translates into increased sales not only for partners but also for the Redmond giant itself.

This would also help Microsoft boost Windows 10's market share at a faster pace, especially because the new operating system will be offered as a free upgrade within the first year after launch for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers.

Back in 2012, Microsoft introduced Windows 8 in October, which was often described as a very unusual date for a company that wants to boost its sales in the short term, so the software giant isn't willing to make the same mistake twice.

Of course, these are only rumors for the time being, but more information on the release dates of Windows 10 is expected to be provided in the coming months, as we get closer to the moment when the new OS is scheduled to reach RTM.
