14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is working at full speed to bring Spartan browser in a Technical Preview build of Windows 10, and according to company executives, the app should be released to insiders in the coming months.
Even though a full demo of the app in action was showcased at the company's January 21 Windows 10 event, there still are a lot of unknown details about it, mostly because the project is still in its early stages and Microsoft hasn't yet decided on every single aspect of the browser.
The Internet Explorer developing team, however, has recently confirmed that Spartan will be designed to work exclusively on Windows 10 and smartphones powered by this new operating system, which basically means that those who are not Microsoft customers won't get it on their devices.
“Designed to be great on Windows 10”
In a tweet posted today, the Internet Explorer team reveals that Spartan is only supposed to run on Windows 10 for the moment, so there's still no plan to bring it in Windows 7 or any other Windows version. Everything depends on demand though, the company says, so if more users want it on Windows 7, the company might consider this opportunity as well.
As far as other platforms are concerned, the team explains that “there are no current plans [for cross platform support], we're focused on making it great on Windows 10.”
Obviously, Microsoft wants to keep Spartan a Windows 10 exclusive in order to bring more users on its revamped platform, hoping that many will find the browser so appealing that they would in the end make the switch to this new operating system.
Windows 10 is projected to see daylight in the fall of 2015, according to some hints offered by Microsoft executives themselves, but a testing version of Spartan should be offered before the summer of this year, in a Technical Preview build of Windows 10.
