Good news for Windows Phone fans who are anxiously waiting for Microsoft to release the next version of Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview, as the company has confirmed that the next build will be upgradable from all Windows Phone 8.1 builds.

Besides the fact that Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview is not compatible with all Lumia smartphones, some users can't simply upgrade to this version of the operating system unless they use an application and reflash their phones.

It looks like the current version of Windows 10 for Phones does not support upgrade from some Windows Phone 8.1 builds.

For example, those who own smartphones that run Windows Phone 8.1 version 8.10.14226.359 or 8.10.14234.375 can't upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview unless they use Windows Phone recovery tool to reflash the device to a lower build.

Users won't need to reflash their devices to a previous version of Windows Phone 8.1

However, beginning next Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview build, anyone with a compatible Lumia smartphone, regardless of what version of Windows Phone 8.1 they run, will be able to upgrade without having to reflash their device to a preview build.

The information has recently been confirmed by Microsoft's Gabriel Aul, who has said that the “next build will support upgrade from higher base versions,” when asked about the matter by a Windows Phone user.

In the same piece of news, we're told that the next version of Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview will bring support for more Lumia smartphones, besides the Lumia 930.

Apparently, Microsoft has found a device-specific issue that affects the Nokia Lumia 930, which is why this smartphone won't be compatible with Windows 10 for Phones until this bug is fixed.

So, there you have it, folks, Microsoft has put a lot of work into the next version of Windows 10 for Phones, which is expected to arrive sometime during the second week of April.
