Microsoft confirms that some features might be missing

Windows 10 for phones preview is very likely to debut soon, and as we told you last week, this early build of the operating system will also be shipped to devices with only 512 MB of RAM, which is living proof that Microsoft plans to support these phones in the new operating system.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, however, has revealed in a tweet today that some features might be missing on 512 MB phones because of the limited hardware capabilities.

Obviously, this perfectly makes sense, given the fact that Microsoft wants Windows 10 to be a game changer, so powerful hardware capabilities would be required to make the most of the new operating system.

At the same time, this is also a good thing for customers who purchased devices such as the Lumia 520, which is currently the number one Windows Phone model on the market, as everyone will get the Windows 10 treatment in one way or another.

Similar strategy for Windows RT

Windows RT devices, such as the Surface RT and the Surface 2, won’t get a full upgrade to Windows 10, but will also receive only “some” features of the new operating system.

This is again possible because of the limited capabilities of these devices but also due to the operating system that does not allow the full version of Windows 10 and some specific features to be installed.

Microsoft, however, wants all its devices to run Windows 10 in one way or another, but there’s no doubt that, in order to make the most of Windows 10, you’ll need either a flagship phone or a new tablet.

Windows 10 is projected to launch the fall of 2015, and the operating system is still in testing on both PCs and smartphones. A new insider program for smartphones is projected to launch in the coming weeks, but again, Windows 10 for phones preview will be shipped only to few phones, most likely flagships that have the necessary hardware to run all features.
