Windows 10 will be released on a wide variety of devices, including PCs, tablets, and smartphones, and pretty much everyone in the industry has big expectations from the operating system that's going to become a game changer for both Microsoft and its partners.

Rugged device manufacturer Getac, based in Taiwan, says that Windows 10 will boost sales in this niche as well, as many customers who are usually looking for devices that can resist water, dust, extreme temperature, or severe hits will be very interested in new features such as Cortana.

Microsoft's personal assistant will complete its transition from Windows Phone to the PC market with the debut of Windows 10, so the new operating system will also give users the possibility of performing a number of tasks by simply using voice commands.

This particular feature will significantly boost sales of new rugged devices, Getac Chairman James Hwang has told Focus Taiwan, because customers will be able to use their tablets without hand input in environments such as military and industrial manufacturing.

Windows 10 is indeed expected to become a breath of fresh air for the collapsing PC market, and OEMs and Microsoft partners hope the new operating system could help them increase demand for new PCs and thus boost their sales.

The new operating system, which will launch in the second half of the year, will be offered as a free upgrade for computers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, so some are suggesting that OEMs might actually have a really hard time attracting more buyers for their new PCs because the new software would also run on existing configurations.

Windows 10 will have the same system requirements as Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, with 1 GB of RAM required for 32-bit configurations and 2 GB for 64-bit systems. Microsoft is also working to reduce the minimum space required, so expect the new OS to work on many more systems, including smaller tablets and phones.
