Microsoft pays more attention to visual tweaks

Windows 10 build 9888 was leaked yesterday on file-sharing websites, so plenty of users have rushed to download it in order to see what's new in this particular version that's not yet available through Microsoft's official channels.

Basically, Microsoft has only changed a few things here and there, but the company also implemented a number of tweaks in terms of visual effects, mostly based on what testers requested after trying out the previous Windows 10 Technical Preview builds.

Windows Insider Program members asked Microsoft to introduce new animations when opening, closing, minimizing, and maximizing windows, and build 9888 not only comes with such visual effects, but also implements several enhancements to those available in older releases.

Starting with this version, there are new visual effects not only for windows, but also for multiple desktops, a feature that was first implemented in Technical Preview build 9841. Desktops are now sliding in from the left side of the screen, making the switching process more obvious, but also more pleasing to the eye.

Increased focus on multiple desktops

Options to work on multiple desktops at the same time debuted in the very first Windows 10 Technical Preview build in early October, and since then, Microsoft hasn't improved this particular feature at all, preferring instead to focus on making other sides of the operating system more effective and easier to use.

Multiple desktops, however, are the subject of several feature requests, with users calling for Microsoft to make it possible to add wallpapers for each desktop, use different name for each of them, and switch from one desktop to another in some other way, such as mouse gestures.

Some of these options will definitely be implemented in Windows 10 before the final debut of the operating system, and the new desktop switching animation is living proof that Microsoft is indeed hearing what users are saying and is working to implement their request.

More features coming in Consumer Preview

Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9888 is not a public release and is only available on file-sharing websites, which means that those who choose to install it must use it at their own risk.

On the other hand, Microsoft is already working on the Consumer Preview build that could see daylight in late January as part of a press conference hosted by the company itself, with this particular release expected to include several new features, such as fresh tweaks for multiple desktops.

Microsoft hasn't yet confirmed the January event, so it's clearly too early to discuss the features that might be part of this release, so the only thing we can do right now is wait for an official announcement on the matter.
