Microsoft says the number of insiders is growing

Microsoft launched the very first Windows 10 Technical Preview build in October 2014, and since then, the Windows Insider program has remained available to all those interested to find out what this new OS is all about, so it's no surprise that the number of testers is growing really fast.

Today at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Stephen Elop, head of the Devices and Services division at Microsoft, has revealed that the Windows Insider program now counts a total of 2.8 million users.

This figure includes testers who installed the new Windows 10 on PCs, tablets, and phones, but those who are trying the preview on smartphones are very likely to account for a small part of the final count.

Needless to say, the PC version of Windows 10 has received the biggest number of downloads so far, not only because it was released the first but also because it's available on pretty much all desktop computers.

The phone version was launched on February 12 and can be installed only on a few devices, but Microsoft promised to release it to more models in the coming months.

New PC build coming in the next couple of weeks

Microsoft hasn't provided a release date for the next Windows 10 build for PCs, but it's believed that the company is now finalizing work on this version and could ship it in just a few days.

The phone version, on the other hand, will get updated sometime in March, but again, no clear specifics have been provided.

Microsoft is expected to add support for more phones in this new version of Windows 10 Technical Preview, including Lumia 930 and 1520, which continue to be the company's only flagships at the moment.

As far as the full version of the operating system is concerned, Windows 10 is likely to make its debut in the fall of 2015, while RTM should be reached in June this year.
