Windows 10 preview is expected to be released to users very soon, but the testing bits of the operating system are likely to lack the PC version of the personal assistant Cortana.

Microsoft has already confirmed that Cortana is set to launch on other platforms beside Windows Phone, but neither Joe Belfiore nor Terry Myerson commented on the PC version of the personal assistant during the company’s Windows 10 unveiling event in San Francisco yesterday.

According to The Verge, however, Cortana is already implemented in some internal builds of Windows 10 and could be released to users through a future update.

At this point, you can launch Cortana by clicking on the new search button on the taskbar, and just like it’s the case on Windows Phone, you only have to click on a new screen to interact with Cortana. It’s not yet clear whether you can call Cortana by name to launch it, but such features are likely to be implemented as the development process advances.

Cortana will help users perform the same tasks as on Windows Phone and will also improve the search capabilities of Windows 10 when it becomes available.

At this point, the feature is still in its very early development stages and won’t be part of the preview build expected to be provided to users later today, but it will definitely be there when Windows 10 comes out in early 2015.
