14 DAY TRIAL // The first on a long list of fixes promised by Apple with the 10.10.2 update released to Yosemite users this week was a patch meant to resolve Wi-Fi connections. As it stands, the problem not only hasn’t been fixed for some users but it has actually emerged anew for others.
With the release of OS X 10.10.2 on Tuesday, Apple promised to resolve an issue that might cause Wi-Fi to disconnect on Macs that had been upgraded to Yosemite, the newest version of the Mac operating system. Hopes were high, for this was the second time Apple attempted to deal a blow to this flaw.
Still a pain in the neck for many
Apparently, 10.10.2 did little to nothing to address the situation. A thread we’ve been monitoring on Apple Support Communities has added roughly 100K more views since the update rolled out, as well as plenty of new reports that Wi-Fi on Yosemite is still crippled. Including under 10.10.2.
In some cases, it was this particular update that messed up their wireless connections. One new commenter to the thread, identified as peppermint, writes on January 30:
“Sorry, i am not willing to stick around with random and very frequent wifi disconnects under 10.10.2. since 2 days, so i rolled back to 10.10.1 through timemachine. with 10.10.1 i had no wifi disconnects or problems at all ! i am now under 10.10.1 and wifi works like a charm.”
Others, like user mrtjns, decided to go back to Mavericks (OS X 10.9) altogether and rid themselves of any issues associated with Yosemite. “I'm back to the 21st century with stable wifi connections after DOWNgrading back to Mavericks...” he writes.
OS X 10.10.3 needed
Some users may have lost faith in Apple, but the Cupertino giant will nevertheless have to address this problem if it wants to keep people on its newest OS. There are numerous advantages for a vendor like Apple to have everyone running the latest software, so it will be imperative for the next update – OS X 10.10.3 – to alleviate these woes once and for all.
