User request has nearly 14,000 votes on UserVoice

Microsoft is building Windows 10 based on feedback received from users, but if we have a look at the main feedback platforms used by the company for the new OS, there are several requests with thousands of votes that are yet to be implemented. And there's no sign that they will ever be.

One of them calls for Microsoft to introduce a fully working Recycle Bin icon in the Windows 10 taskbar that would allow users to remove files by simply dragging them over this icon.

This doesn't seem to be such a complex implementation in Windows 10, but Microsoft is yet to say anything about it, so nobody knows for sure not only if this is possible in the upcoming OS version but also whether the company is at least considering it for RTM.

“This would save so much time”

“Place the Recycle Bin on to the taskbar. Don't just leave it there on the desktop to look ugly. Bring it to life. Place it on the taskbar and let us drag stuff we want to bin straight into it on the taskbar. It's so much quicker than going to the desktop or, right clicking and deleting it. This would save so much time and really look nice and be great for windows users who want to save time!” the user request reads.

In current Windows 10 versions, you can pin the Recycle Bin icon to the Start menu, but for the moment, you can't drag files over this icon to remove them. And obviously, it would be a lot harder to do that if you need to launch the Start menu every time than to simply drag files over the taskbar icon.

Since this particular request has nearly 14,000 votes on UserVoice and interest seems to be growing, we're trying to get in touch with someone at Microsoft to see if there are any chances to see such a feature in Windows 10.

But don't get your hopes too high on this because implementing such functionality in the Windows 10 taskbar could require additional tweaking, which Microsoft might not be willing to do at this point.
