WhatsApp Messenger recently introduced the voice calling feature to Android devices and the company promised it would also bring this function to iOS and Windows Phone platforms at some point.

In fact, the developers have confirmed that they are already working to add voice calling to WhatsApp for iOS and that they are hoping to make it available in just a few weeks.

True to their promise, WhatsApp developers have released today a new update that brings the highly anticipated voice calling feature to the iOS platform, three weeks after it was implemented into the Android version.

With the new WhatsApp Calling feature, users will be able to call their friends and family for free using the application, even when they are traveling in another country.

WhatsApp calls use your smartphone's Internet connection instead of voice minutes from your cellular plan, which means that data charges may apply.

Many other new features and improvements have been added

But this is not the only new feature included in WhatsApp Messenger for iOS. According to the official changelog, WhatsApp should now work very well on iOS 8, so users will be able to share photos, videos and links directly on WhatsApp from other apps.

Then, there's a new quick camera button in chats, so users will now be able to capture photos and videos, or quickly choose a recent camera roll photo or video.

Another new feature added in this update is the possibility to edit contacts right from WhatsApp. Last but not least, users will now be able to send multiple videos at once and crop and rotate videos before sending them.

You can now download WhatsApp Messenger for iOS 2.12.1 for free via App Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by iOS 6 and up. Keep in mind that the WhatsApp Calling is rolling out slowly over the next several weeks.
