WhatsApp for Windows Phone has just received a brand new update, and although the parent company has only provided a very vague change log, it appears that the new version actually fixes one of the most annoying bugs that were affecting devices powered by Microsoft's mobile operating system.

WhatsApp says in the release notes of version 2.11.680 that it includes "bug fixes and other improvements," but we're receiving reports that this new build actually repairs a problem that caused messages to be sent and delivered to and from Windows Phone devices with a few seconds delay.

An official confirmation for this bug fix hasn't been provided until now, but some of our devices here at Softpedia that were suffering from this delay bug no longer seem to experience the problem and new messages appear to be sent and received almost instantly.

Long-time Windows Phone bug

While some devices might not be seeing the bug at all, the first problems occurred several versions ago, when a number of Windows Phone users complained that they received messages with a few seconds delay at random times.

We experienced pretty much the same problems on two different devices, namely a Lumia 535 and a Lumia 930, on different carriers and both running the very latest version of Windows Phone 8.1.

Right now, the delay bug seems to be fixed on both models, but it will obviously take a little bit more time to determine whether or not this new update has indeed addressed the problem once and for all.

WhatsApp continues to be one of the most popular messaging apps on mobile platforms out there, and the parent company is now working to bring voice calling on all devices, including Windows Phone. But no, there's no voice call support in Windows Phone right now, so there's no need to rush to the store to get this new version.

Obviously, everyone is recommended to get the fresh build, no matter if they see the delay bug or not, so go ahead and download WhatsApp for Windows Phone right away.
