WhatsApp is a very popular messaging application that is platform agnostic, meaning that its availability hasn’t been limited to one platform and it has been extended to multiple OSes so that every mobile user out there would have the opportunity to download and take advantage of its features.

The Facebook-owned messaging app is constantly working towards implementing new features, and recently Android users were finally treated to a feature that was long coming - voice calling.

The feature rolled out a while ago, but it was made available only to select users by virtue of an invite. Well, recently, WhatsApp made the option available to anyone with an Android phone at their disposal.

A few weeks later, iOS users received the same treatment, and we also told you we noticed that voice calling was made available for BlackBerry users rocking the beta version of the app.

Voice calling in WhatsApp now widely available for BlackBerry 10 users

This week, a new updated version of WhatsApp in BlackBerry World, bearing version number 2.12.1.2, goes official, finally adding voice calling for everybody, in addition to some other features.

On top of being able to make phone calls from the app, users updating to the latest version will be able to instantly search for individual messages, chats and contracts just by tapping the Search action from the chat list.

The update also brings improved font scaling meant to better match the system display front size setting. There’s an improved support for focus and navigation on the BlackBerry Classic as well.

The “Add to Contacts” button has been added in chats with previously unknown contacts, and a bunch of new, custom ringtones for incoming WhatsApp calls are also available.

Last but not least, we should mention that the application adds counts to the Favs/Groups/Contacts tabs when pulling down the list past the beginning.

Since Android, iOS and BlackBerry users have all made the transition to voice calling in WhatsApp, we’re expecting the Windows Phone version of the app to be updated soon too.

A few weeks ago, we told you that recent evidence was unearthed indicating that a version of WhatsApp complete with voice calling for Windows Phone was currently being tested.

As in the case of Android and BlackBerry, the new feature will probably go out to beta testers first, and then it will become fully available to the general public.
