The developers have changed the base of the OS

Webconverger, a Linux distribution used for deployment in places like offices or Internet cafes, or any other setting that users might only need web apps, has been upgraded to version 30 and is now available for download.

There are quite a few Linux distributions that can be used as a Kiosk, but that is not really surprising. Linux is a safe environment, and it's the obvious choice for anyone who wants to have a public PC that can go through the hands of thousands of people without breaking or getting compromised.

A Kiosk is an operating system, usually based on Linux, which restricts users’ access to any of the components or even the desktop. It limits the interaction of the users with the computer so they can't do anything to hurt the OS, like installing apps for example. In this way, public computers can keep on functioning for a long time without having to reinstall or fix anything. In fact, there are a ton of uses for Kiosk and very few good ones available, and that is one of the reasons why the Webconverger devs are asking money for it.

Webconverger 30 is a big upgrade

Not all of the Webconverger upgrades are big ones, and its makers usually bring a new Firefox browser or a new kernel, but this Kiosk is based on Debian. It was just a matter of time until Webconverger would also move to the new Debian Jessie.

"A seamless upgrade. No config changes. No hoop jumping. No, sweat. If you are running the install version that upgrades itself, you will now be based on Debian Jessie. The new "stable" major release of the underlying open Debian platform for Firefox that will be the basis for Webconverger for the next 3 years. So we skipped version 29 and 30 marks the fact that we are on Debian Jessie 8.0. Hopefully the only difference you will notice is that this new release should run a bit better on newer hardware," reads the official announcement.

Users of the distribution can update from the previous version. For more details, you can read the official announcement, and you can download Webconverger 30 right now from Softpedia.
