Just yesterday, the European Space Agency released a downright gorgeous video showing what our good old planet looks like when observed from space.
The video in question, available below, comprises as many as 12,500 images obtained by astronaut Alexander Gerst during the six months that he spent aboard the International Space Station.
As explained by the European Space Agency scientists who worked on putting together this footage, the images document both man-made and natural landscapes.
Thus, the video shows stars, sunrises, a fragment of the atmosphere, the auroras, cities at night, part of the International Space Station, and even the Milky Way.
Mind you, astronaut Alexander Gerst did not take all the pictures himself. In fact, it's doubtful he would have had any time left to stick to his working agenda if he did.
On the contrary, he simply set cameras to snap pictures of whatever landscapes and sights the International Space Station was flying over. These images were then turned into this brilliant time-lapse.
In case anyone was wondering, Alexander Gerst was a member of the crew aboard the International Space Station starting this year's May and up until last month.
More precisely, it was this past November 9 that this astronaut, together with space explorers Max Suraev and Reids Wiseman, safely returned to Earth.
