Still no word on how to make the philosopher's stone

If you have some time to spare and think you might enjoy playing the scientist in the comfort of your perfectly cozy home, here's a cool video showing how to brew bismuth crystals from scratch.

For starters, you need bismuth. By the looks of it, you can get as much of this metal as you might like simply by going online and ordering some. True, you'll have to pay for it, but this project is totally worth parting with a few banknotes.

When you have the bismuth, simply melt it into a regular stainless steel pot. When it's completely liquid, which will happen when it reaches 520 degrees Fahrenheit (about 270 degrees Celsius), simply turn off the heat and wait for it to cool.

While you're waiting for the temperature of the molten bismuth to drop, feel free to carefully collect whatever impurities have risen to the surface and throw them away.

Soon enough, the bismuth will get cold enough for crystals to form. These crystals will first form at the surface of the liquid metal and grow downwards. When they're big enough, simply pull them out.

The moment they are recovered from the pan, the bismuth crystals will appear silver. As they oxidize, however, they will turn gorgeous shades of green, blue and all sorts of other colors.
