The upcoming Watch Dogs sequel that's currently in pre-production at Ubisoft is going to take more risks and its Creative Director, Jonathan Morin, wants to incorporate a lot of fan feedback in the new experience.

Watch Dogs was one of the biggest all-new intellectual properties that appeared last year and Ubisoft pushed it with a strong marketing effort. Even if its first few weeks weren't that great due to glitches and plenty of issues, the game eventually got praised for its gameplay and went on to sell really well.

Watch Dogs wasn't perfect, creator admits

However, Watch Dogs Creative Director Jonathan Morin tells GamesTM that he doesn't think the game was perfect but that this wasn't clear to the team just as it was getting ready to debut it to the world last spring.

"I don’t think Watch Dogs is perfect in any way and there’s a lot of room for improvement," Morin says. "But you don’t always see this when you ship a game. We deliver what we believe the brand should be at the time."

According to him, once the team finished the project, took some time off, and then actually played through the game at their own pace, it became clear that there was room for improvements.

The new Watch Dogs is going to take risks

Morin emphasizes that with the so-called Watch Dogs 2, he and his team want to take more risks and incorporate a lot of feedback from fans who already have interesting ideas for the sequel.

"With a sequel, there is more pressure to push a brand forward and we now have to appeal to fans in a new way. You have to carry on taking risks. I will not do this job if there is no risk in it, that would just be boring. You shouldn’t prevent yourself from trying something just because it’s hard and the solution is not apparent."

As such, you can bet that Ubisoft's Montreal studio is going to take quite a bit of time to come up with a winning formula for Watch Dogs 2, in order to keep the brand going strong.
