Everything is random in the game, except for death

Although dozens of puzzle games get released on Steam each month and many more through other retail channels, few manage to become popular among PC players.

Vidar is an RPG-puzzler trying to make its way to PC if enough gamers show their interest in the concept. Although parts of the game are already playable and lots of the art and graphics have been created, there’s still a lot to work until Vidar becomes a finished product.

The game is developed by a team of three, Dean Razavi, Becca Bair and Adrian Jakubiak, and is looking for funds on Kickstarter. You may be wondering how Vidar is any different from other puzzle games.

Well, as developers claim, Vidar is a puzzle RPG where everyone dies. Moreover, everything in the game seems random except for one thing, loss. While storytelling and puzzles will be random, Vidar will feature constant loss.

Players will take the role of the Stranger, a character lost in a snowstorm, but who made it into a town, which was previously the former capital of an empire that’s been reduced to a shell of a city.

Vidar is a game with random story and random puzzles

Although you might be happy that you have found shelter, you realize that no one can leave this town and that you are trapped along with all its inhabitants. Each night the Beast kills one citizen and you have 24 days to save the city.

Each citizen has his/her own story and friends and families will be affected by their loss in case the Beast decides to kill them before you manage to save the city.

The order of deaths in Vidar is random, so you can be sure that you will have a different gameplay experience every time you play the game.

In order to stop the Beast from killing all the citizens, you will have to explore its den, solve random puzzles and get to know more of Vidar’s past history.

If the game’s description hasn’t convinced you yet, then you might want to download the demo, which is available for free. Those who wish to support the game can pledge for Vidar on its Kickstarter page and vote it on Steam Greenlight.
