14 DAY TRIAL // Vendetta Online, a space MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) developed and published by Guild Software Inc. that comes with Linux support, has received an update for the Holidays and the devs have made some very interesting improvements.
Vendetta Online is one of the few games of its kind that also comes with a Linux client. Space MMOs are not exactly common and the ones that do work on Windows don't usually follow through with a Linux release. The devs from Guild Software Inc. have provided support for Linux long before gaming on this platform was even taking off, so it's nice to see them prosper.
In fact, some of the previous updates for Vendetta Online have been rather interesting and some pretty good features have been added, including a new OpenGL 4 render that should allow Linux users to get the most out of the game engine.
Space MMOs on Linux are not all that common
The Windows gamers have a wide array of titles to choose from when it comes to MMOs, but very few of them even come close to what Vendetta Online has to offer. The fact that it's been around for quite some time gives it a distinct advantage. They have been adding features and the gameplay has been expanded tremendously.
"We also are in our standard Holiday Promo, welcoming back any player who has previously had a Premium-level subscription to the game (more than 60 days ago), they may play for free between December 25th and January 1st! We hope we see a lot of older veteran players popping by to say hi!"
"For those interested in rendering tech, this is a test using cascaded variance shadow maps, and is not necessarily the final algorithm we may choose (and even if we did choose to use this, there would be many tweaks and fixes). We're in an R&D phase on much of this rendering technology," reads the official announcement.
The team also explained that the shadows in the game have been tweaked, a number of graphical aspects have been corrected, and the shadows for the fog sectors have been removed entirely.
